Sustainable Energy from Local Resources

NewAfrica Clean Energy Ltd is developing biomass-based combined heat and power (CHP) plants in Southern Africa. The Timbadola CHP project in Makhado, South Africa, using FSC certified forestry and sawmill residues to support renewable electricity generation and local industrial energy needs.

Developing Modern Bioenergy in Africa

NewAfrica Clean Energy (NACE) is working to develop and operate a 10 MWe combined heat and power (CHP) facility at Timbadola Sawmill in South Africa. The project will use locally sourced forestry and sawmill residues to produce electricity and process heat for the sawmill and the local municipality. The Timbadola CHP will generate 24/7 baseload electricity, providing an important compliment to the intermittent clean solar and wind power that dominated the South African electricity transition. Distributed baseload power minimizes transmission losses and reduces the need for investment in the grid infrastructure.

Timbadola Bioenergy Project

The proposed 10 MWe and 20MWth CHP facility is developed in cooperation with the South African Forestry Company SOC Ltd (SAFCOL). The project aims to utilize sustainable forestry and sawmill residues at the Timbadola Sawmill in South Africa, with the primary feedstock coming from SAFCOL under a long-term supply arrangement.

The Timbadola Bioenergy project is owned and operated by Makhado Bioenergy Ltd (MB), a subsidiary of NACE.
